I played hookie today. Well, sorta. I had a doctor's appointment and I've been suffering from a drawn-out viral illness that is probably a freak mutant combination of whatever Eric had + whatever that old coughing/vomiting lady had on Monday + whatever that other old congested lady had Tuesday + whatever those 3 vomiting/diarrhea/rash kids had Wednesday... so I took a sick day, which is as close as you get to playing hookie when you're enslaved to the health care system.
So, I deemed today a rest day. I ate warm foods and watched Law & Order on USA. I contemplated my future. I read all the post-election media mania. I ignored the rumblings and twisty-turnies of my intestines as I caught up on celebrity gossip. I thought about how different I am now than I was when I was 18. For example, when I was 19 my IAT showed my attitudes to be vastly different than what they are today. Which is a good thing. Believing that one is a nonjudgmental open-minded person does not mean that one actually is. But there's always room for growth, and acceptance... and the election results may be an indicator that the American people are doing just that. If you've never taken an IAT, I highly recommend it!
Tomorrow I'll head off and battle the germies again. Bring it! And ohbytheway, I had our clinic's first flu case of the year on Tuesday afternoon. So GET YOUR FLU SHOT ASAP. I know it makes you sick, but it doesn't actually give you the flu, and I don't care if you "never get the flu", that's the point, the flu will save you the one year you catch the flu that could kill you. So, I repeat: GET YOUR FLU SHOT ASAP.

Wow - even before the results came back and confirmed it, as I was taking the African America European American IAT I could tell that I am a terrible person!
