On A Leash

Today, I got my beeper. I am officially a slave to the Man. Saaaaaaadness. I've never wanted a beeper. I barely even want a cell phone!

In other news, I'm pretty freakin excited about 3rd year! I got placed on the Womens Hospital Surgery service, which includes Minimally Invasive Surgery and Breast, as well as GI. I start with two weeks of Anesthesiology, which means starting IVs and giving nerve blocks. So exciting!

Just 3 more days of booooooring orientation to go. Aaaaah.

Oh man, I would definitely not be going if there was no salary offer involved. That said, it's not an amazing one- 24K- but its tax-exempt, tax-free, and it makes sense because of my lack of experience.

Why they were willing to hire me was something I was wondering too, but I sort of asked indirectly today during the phone interview, and he said they didn't want pre-trained teachers coming into the SABIS system because as they say, it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks.

The Asian American woman thing, that's another good point that I'm going to have to ask about before I say yes, but I did read somewhere that there's a South Korean base there that's on good terms with the locals.

Thank you for your advice/questions/comments! What do you think about me taking this opportunity? Thumbs up or down? I figure it will be good teaching experience for me, even if I end up teaching at university level. Teaching is teaching right?

Are you staying in Pitt this summer? Still on a high from your Peru trip? I almost got a teaching gig in Venezuela, which would have been so so awesome! South America will have to wait for me, though. In other news, american idol was soooo exciting!!
