The Month of May

Has it really been over a month since I last posted? So much has happened in the last 30 days, I don't know where to start! Okay, maybe I do. I'll start with the biggest news, which is:

Eric proposed to me, and I said yes, and so we're engaged! To be married!! MARRIED!!!

It happened last Sunday the 25th. We decided sort of spontaneously to drive to Philly for my college roommate/best friend's birthday, and planned a picnic in Rittenhouse Square Park--something we used to do when Philly was somewhere at least one of us lived. The weather that day was impeccably perfect, all sun and sky. We were sitting there, snacking on cheese, pate and a French baguette, when a stranger came up to us and asked if we could take his picture. So I got up and did so. When I turned to head back to our picnic blanket, I saw Eric facing me, on one knee, holding a little box containing a ring. A ring! A sparkly diamond-studded gorgeous engagement ring! With a hinge-shank to fit around my gimpy knuckle!! I was completely floored and shocked and flabbergasted--it dawned on me reeeallly slowly what was actually happening. Meanwhile, he was saying really sweet things, and out of the corner of my awareness I the stranger tourist guy and another person taking pictures of us. It was, in a word, crazy.

I didn't even have the presence of mind to say yes. I think he asked twice before it dawned on me to answer. But I did! And we sat with our friend Sarah, who was one of the mystery photographers, who had recruited her friend to be the stranger tourist and other mystery photographer. I was blown away by the planning and secrecy that had been going on, and so happy that it had. All my thanks to Sarah and her friend, and my regrets to Angie for not having been there.

It was just perfect.

I've blogged about the park before; it's one of my favorite places in the world. Now it holds another layer of memories. I'll always have a reason to visit Philadelphia.

In other news, I'm halfway through my Surgery & Perioperative Care clerkship. I am REALLY enjoying surgery, which was completely unexpected. My career crisis continues. We'll see where I end up. For now what's certain is that wherever I end up, it'll be as a Mrs. (Kim-Signoff? or just Signoff? or?)

EEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
