Healthy Hearts

My Cardiology exam is tomorrow (less than 24 hours!), and it's going to be a doozy--there are 5 weeks' material jammed into this one test. Everything from the electrophysiology of the heart to heart sounds (of both normal and abnormal varieties) to acute coronary syndromes (aka "heart attacks") to cardiac pharmacology. Beta blockers and ACE inhibitors and Statins, oh my!

I've really enjoyed MS-2 so far, because topics like Cardiology are so much more clinically relevant than topics like "Fuel Metabolism". I feel like I actually know stuff now, and I'm taking baby steps toward actually helping people--or knowing how to, when the occasion arises. I also feel like I'm learning more and more how to take care of my own heart and body, to prevent myself from becoming a future cardiology patient.

Speaking of taking care of our bodies--Eric & I ran the Richard S. Caliguri City of Pittsburgh Great Race 10K this morning, which took us from Frick Park all the way to Point State Park. I know that means absolutely nothing to most people, but believe me when I say it's a pretty (and pleasantly downhill) course. We finished in just over an hour, which is WAY better than our goal of 1:12 (we weren't expecting so much of ourselves). Maybe some day I'll get faster. Maybe someday I'll get over my sweet tooth, too. Ha. Someday.

To Crangie: Pittsburgh! Pittsburgh!

10k in an hour- that's good! Yesterday I ran the same hill 10 times in the pouring rain. I was heaving after the 3rd one so I had to take breaks.

Shoot, that was treacherous of me, studying at Border's! It's just...you know the Border's in Tacoma is actually really nice and cozy. They've got these singles couches tucked in between shelves, and this huge table you can spread all your books on and study comfortably, and...other various excuses for fraternizing with the enemy.

Yep, I figured, while I'm home I might as well take advantage of the free time and study for this test, which I'll have to take eventually. Both my parents are (strongly) urging me to go to grad school next year. They're wish is my command!

No matter what, I'll definitely be in Pittsburgh for Turkey Day, tho.
