I'm a pretty nice person, but a warning to fellow would-be bouquet catchers: watch out! I've got sharp elbows, and I know how to use them!! I caught Kathy's bouquet at Jeff & Kathy's wedding two weekends ago, and I elbowed 2 young girls aside to get it. No, I'm not proud. But dude it was totally worth it! (By "caught" I mean it fell on the ground and my friend picked it up and handed it to me. Sorta.)
Anyhoo. Enough of that. Has it really been almost 3 weeks since my last post? I do apologize dearly.
Let's go back in time to July 29, since I've been meaning to post about this for awhile. Eric & I drove up to Erie to have a little exploratory fun. A lake, some nature, a big outdoor festival... sounds like a recipe for tons o' fun, yes? Well... it was definitely a great time, but not really because of the "Discover Erie" festival. What we discovered was that northwestern PA is (I don't know why we were so surprised) EXTREMELY conservative--the total opposite of progressive. I was one of maybe 5 non-white people there, and can't say that I felt too welcome. The "fun activity" was a booth set up by a local hunting store to shoot bows & arrows at stuffed animals. Not like, teddy bears. We're talking bears and deer and faux dinosaurs. Yep. So made our own fun, people-watching and spending $5 on a measly corn dog, and watching kites being flown on the "beach". On the way home, though, we stopped by a buffalo farm that I had spotted on the drive up. It's called the Wooden Nickel, and features not only roaming buffalo but a gift shop and a little restaurant. We stopped in for a bison burger and some sweet tea. It was the perfect little surprise ending to a strange quaint adventure trip.
A nutritional fact about buffalo/bison: it's like, SO GOOD FOR YOU. It's red meat without the cholesterol or fat. My goodness. It's even better than a lot of fish, poultry, you name it! So amazing! (There's a link on the Wooden Nickel website about the health benefits of bison, if you're interested).
