It all starts tomorrow, folks! (Actually, it really starts Monday the 28th, because this week is still pseudo-orientation stuff, but you could also say it all really started last Monday with Orientation, so I'll just average it to:) It all starts tomorrow, folks!
Of many the Orientation activity, I only went to a few, but with no regrets. Already in our class I can pick out those I will probably be close to, those whom I will admire but not really hang out with, and those whom I dislike and avoid in non-school circumstances. The leaders are apparent, and so are the clowns, the lazy moochers, the obnoxious commentators, the clique-y holier-than-thous. I think I settle somewhere in the middle, where I'm very happy to be.
Tomorrow we begin the Patient Care block, which runs longitudinally throughout our careers as students. We're starting off with Introduction to Being a Physician, or something like that. I've found that, although it's been a very very long time since I've sat in a classroom for eight hours a day, it's actually sort of nice and not nearly as tiring or boring as one might imagine. And, now that I'm in "professional" school (I could write a very long entry about how much "professionalism" is stressed here), I'm only going to be tortured with stuff that I find inherently interesting: science, medicine, and their relevance in society.
So usually Sunday nights are a big tease: it's the weekend but alas!, much to be done. But here I am--ready for bed, my school supplies freshly bought from Target and packed into my backpack, my alarm set for early AM--and I'm not unhappy that the weekend is over. Yeah, I'll look forward to the next one, for sure. But I'm looking forward to the in-between stuff, too.
Peasout! Happy week to you.
