Vote! (a belated message)

Wasn't the election sheer excitement? It was pretty fun for me to watch... hard not to get into it when Eric was so passionate about it. It all capped off quite nicely when I stealthily checked my laptop in class on Wednesday morning to check the Montana/Virginia statuses and saw the Rumsfeld headlines. Double whoa!

That being said, I do hope everyone took the advice of Dave, Eric & everyone else out there and VOTED. If not, VOTE NEXT TIME. It's not true that politicians don't care about young people--they have kids, many of whom are our age, who are in college or are early in budding careers. It's just that politicians can't use their power to bring issues regarding young people to bargaining tables. Why? Because young people don't vote. Instead, politicians have to focus policy-making and change-enacting on the elderly population's cares and worries, i.e., Medicare and "family" issues. Why? Because oldest people vote. They vote consistently, and are angry when they're not represented in the issues. How many young people do you know who look at the eldery as obsolete members of society, "cute" "old people"? I know quite a few. The reality is that the older population has a good heft of power, a power that far surpasses that of the youth, when it comes to policy change in America. The apathy of the youth in this country is appalling. We can't be the generation without a voice forever--at some point, we'll have to realize that we need to start voting to have control over our lives. If you haven't already, start thinking about what you believe, and who best represents you.
